I bought this camera in November 2001 and am very happy with its performance and features. For those complaining about the graininess of the picture: read the instructions that came with the camcorder! With this camera you have the option of various exposure settings. I found that the AE (Auto Exposure) setting made the image look grainy, especially when shooting indoors. This can be corrected by using the Sun and Moon exposure or one of the others. The 230 model is the most affordable all-digital 8 camera this year. (130 will not play analog 8mm tapes). The camera is a joy to use. Picture quality is a staggering increase from 8mm and it's a delight to be able to view full frames one at a time. I compared to mini DV and found no difference in quality (Digital 8 - 500 lines vs 525 for DV). Tapes are easy to find and cheaper than mini DV.
