💻 Enhanced Sony MRW-S1 High-Speed UHS-II USB 3.0 Memory Card Reader/Writer for Efficient SD Card Access Review

Just received this item. I mainly use it to copy 4k files from a Lexar 1667x (uhs II) SD card and get read speeds of around 235Mbps. Exactly what I was looking for. Pros: Small form factor, fast read speed, trusted brand. Cons: No micro SD card option, inadequate design when it comes to lid/cap that is easy to lose, quite expensive.

Great reader, very fast speed using my Sony UHS-2 cards. But there is no dust cover to open the card. He collected pocket lint that wrapped around the contacts inside. I destroyed it trying to get the lint out because the contacts came out with the lint. Don't carry it in your pocket! I'll order another one, but I'll heed my own warning about carrying it in my pocket.

Works as expected most of the time. Sometimes the writing speed is slower than expected, but that may be due to the card. I ran a speed test using a Black Magic Disk Speed Test App. Two cards tested: Sony M-Series 128GB UHS-II SDXC (R: 260MB/s, W: 100MB/s) and Lexar 64GB UHS-II SDXC (1000x/150MB/s) Sony: 80 reads/ Write 222, Lexar: read 63 / write 139 In addition, SD cards are easy to insert and remove and close securely enough.

It looks like a very basic reader that shouldn't cost more than $10 so I was a bit skeptical but decided to give it a try since it's UHS -II says on USB 3.0 speed. It's a little pricey, but it works! This is the only reader I've ever been able to consistently read and write at 300MB/s on a 300MB/s SDXC card! I've tried other fancy readers but they all seem to be at 95MB/s. Being so small is an added bonus! I will order another one.

First, it works as advertised. It takes full advantage of the transfer speeds of your expensive UHS-II SD cards. I don't like its large shape, nor the detachable lid that's easy to lose. The reader takes up too much space around the USB port on the computer. The LED lamp is very dim and difficult to see. I expect Sony to do better, but if you're looking for a handheld reader that makes good use of your cards, this is for you.

I'm getting mixed results with this card reader. In one of the onboard slots on my motherboard (Asus Zenith ROG Extreme), it reads no faster than 30MB/s. In other slots, it reads 120MB/s from the same Sandisk 100x UHS-11 card. My Lexar XQD reader uses about 250 MB/s in each of these slots. It's small enough to take with you on the go, which is ideal for vacations.
