🔌 Enhance Versatility with StarTech.com PEX1PCI1 PCI Express to PCI Adapter Card Review

The first card received did not work. I tried two different PCI cards on three different PCs in 1x, 4x and 16x slots and couldn't see the new device in Device Manager. I contacted StarTech Support and they were unable to help me. I've already tried everything they suggested. They said to contact the seller I bought it from for a refund or a new card. I used this with an Inateck USB 3.0 PCIe 1x card. I put a half height card in this adapter and plugged it into a free PCI slot, booted the computer into Windows 10 and it found both cards and automatically installed all the drivers for both even before I could check Device Manager, no problems at all. I was positively surprised. I used an AMD motherboard (AM3/AM2+) released around 2006. No problems with any USB device, 2.0 or 3.0, I've connected to it so far, although I haven't tried measuring…

Well it works! This is a good start. I'll update this review if it suddenly stops working, but for now I have an E-MU 1212m sound card and it works great with this adapter. What I like: it works. What I don't like: I had to destroy my computer case to "install" it. Yes you can carefully drill a hole or modify the case but since I'm not good at either of those things I just took a pair of pliers and poked around and messed around. Looks gross but the card is in and working, that's all I care…
