impractical design for outdoor sports and leisure accessories

Too impractical - if you are installing it in a vehicle you have to stop and then look VERY closely at the sensor to try and read the reading. Even then you'd only be within 100 or 200 feet - assuming it's accurate. Too bad they don't do it digitally like some barometer watches.

Super Auto Accessory

Extremely useful if you have lung problems at altitude. As the altitude increases, my husband eventually begins to use oxygen. A quick look at the altimeter tells us to prepare for the mission. On the contrary, if you're moving to lower altitudes, it's obviously useful to know that it's safe to stop.

Pros
  • Several competitors

  • I won't say anything

Fun and accuracy in the Electronics and Gadgets section

It was fun. Indeed, as we traveled in and around Arizona, we found it very accurate. From about 8,000 feet down to a lower range of 3,000 feet. There were moments when I could see a sign out of the corner of my eye that spoke of attitude. I would check with my new toy. It was right.

Great Heights on Electronics & Gadgets

Gave this to my sister who lives in the Great Northwest where the heights change if you like to travel. She wanted to buy an altimeter for her dashboard and used it immediately. The bonus is that it comes with a barometer which has warned you of weather changes on a number of occasions. It satisfied all of their needs and was greatly appreciated.

Pretty accurate - close enough for me.

Shortly after receiving it, I made it to sea level in San Diego and then returned to over 5,000 feet en route to Las Vegas. When I was at sea level I zeroed it, and then when I passed a road sign that said I was at 4,000 feet, it said about 3,800 feet. It's definitely enough for my personal use. Update: I returned to sea level after about 2 weeks and it showed me about 200 feet below sea level.

Pros
  • Outstanding Overall Performance
Cons
  • There are issues

A way to know if you're high or not. LOL

Knowing that any sensor that uses atmospheric pressure to determine altitude will never be 100% accurate. However, I'm not trying to land a plane in the Alps. It seems to be within 100 feet or so which is good enough for me. It vibrates heavily, but if you put your finger on it, it stops. Then again, knowing it's mounted on my...motorcycle's dashboard...would explain it. It tells me if I'm ascending or descending and roughly (within 100 feet or so) my altitude. This fully meets my needs.

  • Rugged finish

  • Useless features

You need to know height to use this height gauge.

I think this device will be useful for climbers or serious tourists. I needed something to measure height but didn't know it worked by measuring the change from a known number. So, to measure altitude with this device, you need to enter the starting altitude number. Basically, you need to know the height to use this height gauge. Unfortunately, I didn't realize this until I threw away the packaging, so I can't return it. I just take it as a lesson learned.
