The medium size is still rather long and tight for someone just below 5'3". I'm 110 lbs. I can fit in it but need to be a little careful pulling it up so as not to tear anything in the waistband. This may expand in water, I don't know but the biggest concern is the need to have some type of thick bottoms inside the tights if you are conscious about cracks and lines showing. I burn easily and needed coverage for river trip. These were great! No burn, no need to slather on the sunscreen or worry about burning. They were very thin and comfortable ,but not sheer. Everyone loved the look. I paired it with a SPF 50 zip up jacket and wore bikini top underneath.

I want to start by saying that I will continue to wear these leggings for sun protection when swimming. I especially like my purple pair.
