Get rid of the standard BMW plastic screw IMMEDIATELY!

Purchased AFTER the plastic original broke. forced me to replace the whole damn upper radiator hose (since I couldn't get the broken connector out). Spend a few dollars and avoid this headache. Your future self will thank you.

Pros
  • Handy item
Cons
  • Expensive

Much better than the stock resin bleeder valve

The factory resin bleeder screw in my '07 BMW X3 was warped and leaking so I settled on this brass bleeder valve. This is a significant improvement over the factory prop and I can say it will likely outlive the engine. A part of the mind is worth buying.

Pros
  • Durable finish
Cons
  • Out of style

It just works! for spare parts

TAAAAAAAAA much better than the dull plastic you get from the factory. You can easily turn it on or off no matter the car is hot or not. My problem with the factory plastic tool was that if you don't have the PERFECT size tool, you're likely to tear or ruin it, especially when it's hot and soft. So buy it.

Pros
  • Super for me

Fits 99 Land Rover Discovery II Coolant Bleed Fittings

Land Rover uses a plastic bleed fitting in the upper coolant hose assembly. I've replaced this part before (the Rover requires a $150 hose and connector) and I found this brass air vent. Works great! Thanks to BMW for the alternative to the bad Rover design.

Pros
  • Stylish Design
Cons
  • Ugly Packaging

Perfect Fit OEM Plastic Original

The original plastic part is cracked in the middle and leaking. That. Upgrading the brass screw means the part will never fail, so this is an easy repair for the owner that will last the life of the vehicle.

time bomb. . . on Coolant Rebuild Kits

Over time, this brass bleed screw will deform the bleed threads. The heat and vibration of the engine will take over and the result will be a leak. Replacing the upper radiator hose is the only solution. Ordered August 12, 2019 for my 2001 BMW 330Ci; replaced the upper radiator hose on October 24, 2021 due to a leaking drain plug. Obviously there's a reason the original bleeder screw is made of plastic that expands and contracts with the hose.

BMW coolant expansion tank bleed screw upgrade to brass?

Plastic parts wear out over time due to heat build-up in the engine compartment. Somehow my factory plastic air vent leaked through the center hole. I found this upgrade replacement that survives the expansion tank. As it is made of brass, care must be taken not to over tighten the screw and damage the threads on the tank or the tank itself. Your choice, OEM plastic or solid brass, the price is almost the same. The difference won't hit the wallet.
