🥤 Thunder Group GLTWSY014 Dispenser: Premium 14 Ounce Food Service Equipment & Supplies Review

Bought 2 of these over 2 years ago, one for honey and one for syrup. The one for honey has a layer of silver that peels away from the inside revealing an almost copper-colored metal. I'm not sure what metals these are, so I'll throw them away. Ideally I would like the countertop to be stainless steel. Instead, it's made of some kind of silver-plated alloy that can't have prolonged contact with honey. Since they are shipped from China, lead is an issue.

I was initially very happy with this syrup dispenser but after a few months the lid started to rust. I hand washed it upon arrival and then immediately poured syrup over it. It is used at home so it took us a few months to refill it. When I took the cover off I noticed that the metal was starting to rust (see photo). It doesn't seem safe to continue using, so unfortunately we had to throw it away. I would not recommend this product.

A drop of honey always drips from the lid and forms a sticky ring on the counter. I can't use it. The ants will come. The lesson (again) is to read the reviews first. Update 09/17/2016: After making my decision, I investigated why the leak occurs and how to stop it. I have a feeling the seal that comes with the dispenser depends on the cap being slightly tightened as too much pressure will cause it to shift. Beautiful glass body and zinc plate with quality gasket. I thought the zinc plate outperformed the chrome plated competitors - my experience is that the chrome finish flakes off over time. Overall it appears to be well built and looks good. My first concern was that there was a visible gap between the retractable spout lid and the spout. This will allow the syrup to flow out a little. I love it, my husband likes to make "Italian Cream Soda" and used to buy $6 Torrani Vanilla Coffee Flavors and ate them up too quickly for my liking. 8 decided I could easily make a vanilla flavor and use it to store and dispense the flavor. I make 1 cup sugar, 1 tablespoon brown sugar, and 1 tablespoon real vanilla. Boil sugar and water until dissolved, cool slightly and add vanilla. We have used it as a honey dispenser for about 6 months. Although it doesn't spill on its own, honey will always remain on it after use, which we need to wash off before putting it in the cupboard. A new problem—and the reason I'm writing this review for others—is that it can't possibly be airtight and pest-free. We keep it in our closet with other items and other things are fine.
