CHIRP does not work with this radio!

Warning! CHIRP will not work with this radio. I've tried every radio option available in CHIRP and I've tried every driver I can find. I'm using a quality $20 FTDI USB cable and still nothing. A google search shows that this problem has existed for over a year. Oddly, there is a Chinese website that sells the BF-R3 programming software for $25. So a $33 radio requires a $20 cable and a $25 programming app. Looks like a scam. I'll return the cable and just figure out how to use the radio in…

Two antennas are impractical

After opening the package, the first thing I ordered was a three-band rubber duck antenna. Carrying around a second antenna is pretty inconvenient. However, I would prefer one of these over a dual-band model. It's still very cheap and you get three bands. It's just as hard to program as any Baofeng, but easier than Anytone in my opinion. The data cable and free downloadable Chirp eliminate the need for programming. Maybe one day they'll offer a model with adjustable noise cancellation directly…

Typical Baofeng radio

As a Baofeng UV-5R variant, the BF-3R's menus and functions are almost the same, the only difference is that instead of the 2m and 70cm, it has This band also has a range of 1.25 meters. When programming with the appropriate computer programming cable, I recommend using the free CHIRP program. The radio you select to program the BF-3R is the same as the Radioddity UV-5RX3. A word of advice: even with CHIRP, you can still use it to operate out of range, which could cause serious problems with…

First test after a few weeks of use.

Transmitter not fully tested. I decided it was worth sharing what I have as other reviews helped me with the purchase. True tri band. The radio feels solid, although the charging dock and adapter seem cheaper. Worked for a couple of weeks on the first charge. Used several hours a day for listening/scanning. Glad to have the extra 1.25m band as it is used by one of the busiest local repeaters. No complaints about the sound quality. It's definitely worth buying a programming cable to get all the…
