Difficult to install

Appearance is original quality but the installation is not the manufacturer's fault, it's just in a stupid place in this car

What to Expect

The cabin air filter is difficult to replace on a '08 Volvo S40, but this filter does what it's supposed to and is flexible enough to fit in place.

  • Free for educational institutions

Fits well and is well priced

Replacing this filter is incredibly difficult. It's not the filter, it's its position in the car. Substitution requires patience, time, perseverance and a colorful vocabulary.

Difficult to assemble and can come loose

Two features in focus: 1/ Rigid rails - difficult to bend when inserted into the truck bed (argument for Volvo C30); 2/ Lack of foam strips on both edges. I don't know what the active areas of the filter are (geometry or air hose diameter), but I suspect the original Volvo filter (made in Germany) had reasons for using foam strips on both ends. If the air hose is the same width as the filter, it can be routed around the filter without the foam strip. Because of these two characteristics…

Great filter. Comes with instructions but indulge yourself a lot.

Great filter. Comes with instructions but allow plenty of time for fitting into a Volvo S40 or V50 as this is time consuming. Anyone with basic automotive knowledge can do this, but it's in a cramped, hard-to-reach area. I had to go a couple of times to "cool off" but I went right back to it. It took about an hour and only 4 screws. During the trial I said to myself never again, but now that it's over I'm picking it up again. The filter is of the highest quality and the air in the cabin is much

Pros
  • Great price
Cons
  • Big and bulky

Great for Volvo V50

I installed this on a 2007 Volvo V50. The air filter was very similar to the OEM filter (which was probably never replaced). Make sure you installed the filter correctly. There is an "Air Flow" arrow on the air cleaner that is meant to point toward the rear of the vehicle. It looks like it's made of good material and will work just fine. I will say installing it in a Volvo V50 is an absolute nightmare. The air filter is behind the dashboard and you have to move the gas pedal to access it. Doing
