🐻 Ursack Major - Bear Resistant Food Sack - Bear Proof Container - 8 Inch Diameter Review

Ursak is only available in black. The manufacturer could not have come up with a worse color. Even in bright sunlight, nothing inside the bag is visible and the contents get very hot in the sun. A friend has an older Ursac that is white with easy to see contents and stays cooler in the sun. I would advise tourists not to buy this product until they offer it in white again. The manufacturer must be smart! It also seems overpriced for the quality.

I used this bag on a 5 day hike in Colorado, USA. I packed enough food for probably 8 days but this bag was a bit small for this amount of food and other smelly items. Make sure you know how to properly tie knots when using this bag and attaching it to a tree. 2 double knots at the top to tie the bag tight and a figure eight knot to attach it to the tree. I had no problems with critters on my first and only trip so far. Will update later after a few rides.

I have 2 of these bags that I have used backcountry hiking. They are super durable. They must be used with anti-odour inserts to prevent animals from smelling the contents of the bag. The pouch itself is made to resist the animal's attempt to enter it. I think he's strong enough for it. So far I have not had a case where an animal climbed into a pocket or tried to climb into a pocket. The only downside is that the bag is a bit heavy, but lighter and has fewer bags than a broken canister.

Overall, I don't like paying $$$ for a bear bag - yes, I'm VERY familiar with other options, but still. - but this bag did its job against forest animals. We're not in grizzly country, we're in black bear country and we haven't seen a bear hit the sack yet. It would make sense for the bag to be a lighter color (so it doesn't retain heat from the sun for perishables like bug spray) and be usable, but it should be clear that the company no longer makes white bags.
