I use V-Alpha for hiking, going to the beach etc. As casual shoes they are good but that's what I use V-Trek for. The V-Alpha has a slightly less aggressive profile and is slightly thinner overall than the other FiveFinger models, so I wouldn't recommend them as a first pair unless you're already used to wearing minimal shoes.
