serious focus shift

Rangefinder focus shift is a game over issue, you can't refocus like you can with a DSLR. At f/1.1, all distances seem accurate. It starts to back focus as you approach, at f/2 the images are back focused by 4-5 inches. moreover, by expanding the depth of field, everything seems to be in order again. The build quality is very good, could be a good fast lens, but it's a shame.

Pros
  • Great price
Cons
  • Good but not great

Good lens for the price

This lens is a great alternative to what Leica and Zeiss offer in the Summilux and Fast ranges. The price is great too! Fast aperture means very shallow depth of field. Unfortunately, this lens has some focus shift, about 1 degree back for my example. However, when you focus, the images are sharp and the color reproduction is good on the Leica M9.

Pros
  • Easy to adjust
Cons
  • Not as thick as other models

A 4 star lens at the price of 6 stars.

This lens is not optically perfect. The bokeh is a little harsh, but that's okay. I want the aperture to be adjustable by 1/3 stop, but it gets adjusted by 1/2 stop. etc. etc. whatever. This lens costs a fraction of a used Leica Noctilux and is hardly worth a penny compared to a new Noctilux. Visually, the Leica isn't perfect either, but I suppose one can argue that the bokeh is noticeably better. Anyway, as a 50mm lens this is a solid 4 star lens: it sharpens well, doesn't have any major…

About Sony A7 in Camera Lenses

Bought this lens to shoot with a Sony A7. When I received the lens, the first thing that struck me was the focal length. It's 1 meter (3 feet), meaning close-focus portraits are out of the question. This gives you an effective depth of field of 1-5 meters before reaching infinity and a soft, wide, open landscape photo. About the assembly: - The first lens I received did not focus smoothly. 1-2 meters as if you are driving on uneven sand. Almost impossible to turn. Several times I thought I was…

Pros
  • High marks for support and durability from testers
Cons
  • Long delivery time

Unusual! Voigtlander Nokton 50mm f/1.1 lens on Sony VG900

I haven't had a chance to try this lens on a Leica camera. I use it on a Sony VG900 full frame camcorder. The first full-frame mirrorless camcorder that accepts Leica M-mount lenses with an adapter and captures 24-megapixel photos. Unfortunately, the VG900's video suffers from poor moiré, aliasing and low resolution due to poorly implemented line skipping, so I had to use still mode to see what this lens is capable of. Blurred areas create a special look. This lens is worth every penny and the…
