I bought this to replace my mother's cutlery case that I inherited. The original cover was missing. This case is well made and worked well for their 16 pc setup.

DO NOT BUY! The hinge broke after I added knives on top. When I first opened it, two parts were misplaced and I had to fix it. The quality is terrible! I give it back!

The cover with knives does not close! And it's not hardwood, it's MDF with laminate to make it look like wood. And it was a handmade "tree" with a "Made in China" sticker on the bottom.

This box was just what I needed. My cutlery is quite large and fits in without any problems. The problem some people have with the knife may be that the point of the knife needs to fall into the shirred area at the bottom of the lid. When you put the tips of the knives in this little pocket, they fit snugly and the lid can close. See photo. The outer finish looks the same as the photo in the description.

I have just ordered and received one of a very special family silver set given to my wife by my 92 year old grandmother. I took it to her this weekend to have everything installed and we had exactly the same experience. The first thing we put in were knives and they didn't close. Very disappointed! How can a company miss something so fundamental!?!? If the floor dividers weren't so high, everything would work perfectly. Return for refund. $94 for 'handmade' and untested?

I put the cutlery at the bottom of the box and was very happy that it contained more than the usual 12 pieces. Finally I put the knives in and when I tried to close the box I found the knives hit the bottom shelf where the other pieces fit! I removed the bottom pieces and put some knives in the top slots and got the same result. The knives cut into the bottom shelf and the lid would not close!
