What you do is take it off and open the case at each end (it's hard to open but it just shows it protects your phone), then open the inside and put your phone inside. Although the case was an exact replica of the Otterbox Defender, it is NOT an Otterbox Defender case. The fit is much tighter than the Otterbox and the rubber outer shell is much stronger than the original. I was concerned that its "hardness" wouldn't offer the protection of the softer Otterbox, and I was right. This case is much better than the more expensive Defender case. I had an issue with plastic squeaks on my old Otterbox Defender so I decided to buy it because of the similar design and unique colors. The hard plastic case is a much tighter fit than the Otterbox so it doesn't squeak.
