I recently purchased a surge protector and am extremely satisfied with its performance. We've used them in both industrial Ethernet applications and in HDMI extenders that use CAT 5 or 6 cables. They didn't interfere with either signal. In 2 years of use on 100-300ft cables we haven't had any surge damage so either they work or we didn't need protection. However, the low cost of this item makes it useful insurance in case something happens.
