Received this item today. The courtesy light burned out within the first five minutes of being turned on. While the backlight wasn't the reason we bought this product, it certainly should have been more reliable. And I don't see a way to open the globe without completely destroying it. It still works like a globe, but if you need a night light feature, look elsewhere.

I received the globe this morning and excited to show my kids I open it up and pull it out. Aside from the fact that the seal on the globe was faint, the globe was actually damaged. Now I hate returning things and will try to fix things so they don't come back, I didn't think so in this case. If the plastic breaks, it's my fault. It doesn't seem like a terrible globe, but for $50 expect better materials and no damage.

I seem to have gone through TEN of Globe options. Maps and the internet are not enough for me to get a complete frame of reference when analyzing the globe. That's great! Large and legible (even for my old eyes) font for countries, states, cities, etc. Topographic information is also included. Best of all, it's lit from within, giving off a beautiful glow (the globe is both beautiful and educational) and making it even easier to read. Good choice!

This was a gift for my 7 year old grandson, bought to help him better understand the shape of the earth and its geography. I liked how it has the contours of the seabed. Now he's looking for places on the globe he's read or heard about. I am very happy with the purchase and what was expected for such a price. Of course, if I were to buy something for my home library, it would be larger and much more expensive material; but it was only for what i intended.

This globe was the best of about 10 similar ones I've reviewed here. It is easy to read – the markers are large enough, written in legible font and neatly arranged. Terrain features are not "raised"; However, they are marked with markings that convey this impression very well. The acrylic sphere is a standout feature. It's pretty solid, not heavy. This globe has many modern details. However, I will confess I bought it to use primarily as a bedroom night light - like a magical ball of light that would resemble what the earth looks like in pictures taken of the moon by our astronauts. In this regard, this product is not suitable. In night lighting, it looks like a very pale and pale face of the moon. Only the colors are not very bright.
