.You are reading the bottom edge of the strip, you should be reading the top edge. When the top margin is at zero, the bottom margin is (approximately) 0.040, which is why everyone says it's inaccurate "out of the box". You must read the top margin. 🙄

Looks good if you just want something shiny, but really worthless as a pet. (should be zero) Actually you can see in the picture that the point is raised flush with the ground and the indicator is almost at zero.
