I could have lived longer

For me, the most important property of a hard disk is that it has a very long life. - shutdown with 2 or 3 cold starts) was from February 2006 to June 2009 or about 40 months. I complain that this disc did not last as long as I would like, although I accept the possibility that this case was an accident.

Pros
  • Lots of positive emotions
Cons
  • No performance

Reliability for computers and accessories

I bought this hard drive about 18 months ago and have had no problems with it. Fast and reliable at a great price when I bought it. Highly Recommended

Pros
  • Pleasant to use
Cons
  • Not bad, but...

WD2500KS is a decent all round drive

This is a fairly fast drive that gets a little warm with little spindle (motor) noise. Look for noise when accessing the hard drive. Unlike some other brands, there is no sound level adjustment software to reduce search noise. This is really only a problem for silent PC enthusiasts as most PC fans drown out seek noise. Strangely, the similar WD3200KS is much quieter. Or at least my special one.

Pros
  • Satisfied so far
Cons
  • Will write back later

All my Western Digital discs!

Great disc. Before installing, make sure your motherboard supports the speed this drive will run at. I have to call ASUS to check it. In any case, if you need to slow down the motherboard drive, you need to put a jumper on pins 5 and 6 to cut the speed in half. After I did that, the board saw the drive and the rest is history. It drives great and very fast, I can confirm that. My other drive on this PC is the 80GB WD IDE and I've never had a problem with it either. So trust the disc, take it…

Pros
  • The best
Cons
  • Ugly packaging

Still working well (more than 2 years later)

Easy to install. It was initially louder than the hard drive it replaced (a failed Maxtor hard drive). But I think the noise is gone. Either that or when I later replaced the motherboard which increased the CPU fan noise it just drowned out the noise of that hard drive. I'm skeptical about the latter option because the seek noise was pretty crisp, so I don't think the fan noise could have masked it that well. In any case, the hard drive has been working fine for more than two years --- and at…

Pros
  • Hands free operation
Cons
  • Very expensive

Comprehensive Computer Recovery

All-in-one computers are best recovered from a hard drive failure with the same drive as before. I was happy to discover that this relatively small disc (by today's standards) is still available, even in the same "flavor". The replacement worked perfectly.

Pros
  • Absolutely Amazing!
Cons
  • confusing
