These wick trimmers are long enough for my tall candles in glasses. The cut-off is enough to trim most waxed wicks and they seem to be quite strong.

These handy wick trimmers from Wickman not only look good, they're easy to use too. It cuts the wicks to the right length quickly and easily and looks beautiful on the mantle.

I bought it mainly because I liked the look! Our local candle shop clerk told us that pruning would extend the life of the candles, but the ones offered in the shop looked very basic. I found this pair on Amazon for just a few dollars. The grip is a bit awkward (I have small hands) so anyone with a large grip might find it more than a little awkward.

Suitable for both wooden candles and normal wick candles. I wish I had bought this a long time ago. This is a gift for my Louisiana born daughter (fleur de lis is worn by the New Orleans Saints) and I bought a basic trimmer. But regardless of skill level, it makes trimming candle wicks a lot easier and avoids the black soot that results when a candle wick is too long. This allows the wicks to be easily trimmed to the appropriate 1/8-1/4 inch for safety and to avoid soot.
