Flash X-Tender FX-4 Flash Output Booster for Nikon 💡 SB-600 and SB-800 Flashes with 300mm Lenses - Better Beamer Review

I haven't used this item enough to give it a fair review. It appears to be as stated. It doesn't stick as well as I'd like, but it's enough to keep it in place if you're careful.

A very effective way to add more light to a night scene. It does its job very well. Impressive light (square shape) to the object at least 100m away. The only comment is the build quality. It's nothing more than two plastic parts and a plastic lens plus strap) so I'm not sure how long it will last

Does pretty much what it's supposed to. The lens isn't held very securely (with the help of very thin Velcro) BUT it hasn't been dropped or fallen off yet. It tends to hang down, so you'll need to add a bracket to the part of the flash that pivots to support it. Otherwise there are no complaints.

Great idea and very useful when set up properly. My main complaint is that even with the extender firmly attached to the flash, it can be very difficult to line up the flash evenly, since the weight of the extender tilts the flash down a few degrees, which means flash coverage area and field of view on your telephoto lens are not aligned. I use a Sigma Sport 150-600 lens. I've had good results with the product, but it's still a work in progress.

As promised, allows you to go further without loss. Unfortunately, it's very difficult to line it up correctly - too high and the bottom edge of the picture is too dark, too low and the top edge is dark. More precise adjustment is required. Before using it I have to calibrate it and adjust the strap half a dozen times to get it in the right position and then be very careful not to hit it. Even then there's a lot of vignetting, which isn't a big deal as you can either enjoy the vignette or crop…

I built my own version and it kind of worked. Then I met the photographer at Lake Balboa, California. who filmed with Better Beamer. He let me try my hardware, then I dropped the homemade version and bought it. I've found this to be effective up to about 100 feet with my setup. Also a bit doubtful. I use the Better Beamer to photograph small birds in low light and high contrast, e.g. B. in clear skies. It is designed for use with external flashes and telephoto lenses with a focal length of 300mm or more.
