Solid and Smooth - Vise

This monster is heavy, but I was able to install it with clamps and careful measurements. It took 4 hours, but I'm slowly doing something for the first time. My countertop is 1.75" thick so I glued and cut a block (10" x 7" x 2.25") and secured it with 6 3.5" construction screws under the countertop, the block fits to the edge of the cutout I. in finishing finished the bench for the back jaw nest.After tracing the underside of the vise on the block I pre-drilled holes for 4 screws going through

Just received today. I might not be able to use it for its intended purpose for a while, but since I already have it installed on my desktop, I thought it was worth sharing my observations. The deeper I delve into working with wood, the more often you want to fix something firmly without damaging it. My big metal vice won't do it, even if I put something soft in my jaw. Cautiously Optimistic

I've been looking for a new vise for my recently completed Paul Sellers inspired workbench for months. I watched eBay try to buy an old English record vise but wasn't happy about spending more than $200 on a rusty project.
