Damaged my SD cards

Worked fine for a while (used 15 times) although the connector is pretty flimsy - doesn't snap tightly. It then corrupted one SD card to the point where my camera thought it wasn't an inserted card and somehow it corrupted the other, leaving no more than a few hundred photos. If it just stopped working I'd say WTF it was cheap crap. Damage to my SD cards - not worth the risk. Don't buy this crap or anything like that as it could be the same device with a different marketing seal. Another case…

Failed/broken after 3 uses - cheap plastic

I work in IT and Engineering with Atari 2600 and Commodore for 64 days. I can honestly and reliably say that this item is junk. I've seen higher quality products come out of the cereal box. When moving files between some computers with an SD card, I managed to insert/eject the SD card THREE times before it just died. If you pinch a cheap plastic case, it will come alive for about a minute and then die again. The supplied USB extension cable is also NOT compatible with USB-II. I thought I might…

four out of five were good

I bought five of these cards for students in a photography class I teach. Four out of five worked great. They are legible and can be written correctly. The fifth had a clearly defective USB cable extension - the white stripe on the end of the receiver was in the middle of the capsule, not the bottom. It also turned out to be buggy when connected to a computer. The computer rejected the card reader when reading through this cable. But the fifth card reader itself worked perfectly when connected…

Cheap, defective product, NOT the same as in the photo!

I bought this SD card reader to have as a backup. I already have one just like the one I saw in the photo and I liked it so wanted another one as a backup at work. The product arrived on time but not like the photo! I was very disappointed! It looked cheap, had a hard-to-operate snap-on top, and was bulkier than the one in the photo. I kept it because I figured I still needed a backup and it was cheap. Recently I finally used the part and it didn't work. Cheap cheap cheap and should be illegal…

Worked great until it died.

I bought this with my SDHC card. It was really cheap, it was even delivered quickly and it worked great for about 4 months. I've used it probably 20-30 times, been very careful with it, uploaded 2-200 photos per lap and it's held up very well. Then he just died, without warning. The light just stopped working, it didn't even register as plugged into my computer's USB port, it just registered as off on my friend's laptop. Definitely give up and buy a more expensive reader with better reviews…

Pros
  • Easy to read control panel
Cons
  • Not bad but...

NOTE: I would give this chip zero stars if I could. I used a 16GB Scandisk SD card. The fifth time, he used the USB extension to open a folder on his desktop that was all code. Then a message popped up saying it wasn't deleted correctly, which could cause problems etc. except for me. I didn't remove it. I took it out and plugged it in without the USB extender and it said the memory card could not be read. I put the chip back in my camera and it said the same thing and wouldn't let me reformat…

It's cheap, I'll give it to him.

I bought this mainly because it cost $3.45 and it would have meant my order would have been shipped between $22 and $25, which would have entitled me to free shipping on my items, which pretty much 6 $ saved if I decide not to get it. I need/want it. In any case, the transfer rates of the reader are not specified either on the packaging or in the description. Transfer speeds are as fast as my class 10 cards can handle, ie at least 20MB/s or faster. The build quality is clearly unsatisfactory…

Almost identical memory card readers

The Zeikos USB card reader is almost identical to the Elago USB card reader, also available from Revain. However, the material used for the case is a bit thinner and lighter. Actually I preferred the Elago reader more because it was much more durable. However, in my previous review, I mentioned that it only worked on two or five of my computers. I had no problems with the Zeikos device. In fact, it worked on all my machines, whether they were store bought or built by me. The price I paid was…

Zeiko's USB 2.0 in memory card accessories

Update: 04/18/10 After hundreds of uses I decided to buy another card reader when I gave it to a friend who was trying to load HC cards with a regular reader . I bought the below. I like it a lot more. It is more convenient to insert and remove the reader into the computer and the SD card into the case. I recommend Secure Digital over the Zeikos reader. PQI USB 2.0 SecureDigital High-Speed (SDHC) Card Reader I was a little concerned it would be junk because of James' review, but figured it was…
