AFTER ALL . IT WORKS OUT!

*** UPDATE 10/06/2018 *** The replacement unit has arrived and is still working great. *** UPDATE September 30, 2018 *** My initial review is below. After only 24 hours of use, the device starts giving problems. It dies and freezes on my computer. I called customer service and a refund/refund is in progress. I haven't gotten rid of this device yet. I just repurchased so let's see how the replacement holds up! My advice to anyone buying this device is to run it continuously for the first 24-48 hours (just turn the volume down!). If there are hardware problems with your particular device they will likely arise during this time and you can easily get a refund through Revain. I really only wanted stereo FM radio capability on my PC so maybe this purchase was a bit overkill for me . I love that I don't have to have a regular FM radio to be entertained! I also have a BT transmitter hooked up to my PC, so it's very convenient to stream to speakers in my kitchen. After following the instructions, the device installed normally and was recognized by my Windows 7 PC. I chose the SDR# (SDR Sharp) software. This can be a little overwhelming for those who aren't into radio/SDR much as there are many options. I've been digging around and managed to figure out the features I wanted to use and reception is good where I am. (Actually, I use one of those square HDTV antennas with an adapter on the cable). SDR Sharp doesn't actually need to be 'installed' on your computer, so it doesn't add anything to the Windows registry. You just need a folder where you need to extract the software, then add the dll file for that specific device. The manual is schematic and seems to be intended for radio amateurs. It is necessary to explain the function of each of the options (drop-down lists, checkboxes and buttons) on the interface screen. Also, there must be a way to minimize the screen. to remove the rotatable graphic display, which is probably mostly unnecessary for normal use. This device heats up when you run the software and receive a signal. Mine hangs in the air by a cable. It is best to connect these devices using a USB extension cable so as not to overheat the computer case, and for the same reason do not use them in a closed cabinet or place them on furniture. One of my Windows 7 updates disabled a driver, requiring me to reinstall - something to be aware of if you're updating Windows and your device suddenly stops working. I would recommend this device to others with only one caveat. You have to search for things and if you are not computer savvy you might have trouble getting the device to work on your computer.
