Very short life with any type of battery. I was only using one for underneath my kitchen cabinets so I could make coffee without the big lights needing to be on. I bought these to do two things. First I placed two in a Tuffy security box I installed in the rear of my soft top Jeep. The box is secured by closing the tailgate so the overhead lights no longer illuminate the rear cargo area inside the box. The adhesive-backed magnets work well to hold these lights anywhere you want them. Each light requires 3 AAA batteries for power. The battery requirement is too costly and too wasteful if you need these running at their full brightness level. I use them to illuminate the inside of my shower from above, so I only use them when bathing. These have a nice form factor, and feel well made. However, they have two key points that will make me not buy them again.1) They automatically dim often. I can't figure out what the algorithm is. I do like the concept and the tap & dimming features, but for two minor issues-- it is difficult to twist-open the battery compartment by hand because the fit for the backing plate is so tight that I needed the help of a screwdriver to prompt the slide to open it. These would not be the best bright light for lighting a room, but we love them in our bedroom for a nice soft yellow light when powering down for sleep. Nice ambiance. I would get a brighter white for power outages. The bright white ones were too blinding for everyday use "powering down" but these are just right. We use two in a large bedroom approx. 16' x 16'. The issue is that the description is incorrect. These lights are NOT intended to be used as Cabinet Lights. They work 10+ hours from standard Eneloop batteries and I would not expect any sufficiently bright light to last any longer on AAA batteries (it's physics). I'm very happy with these. They are not very bright, but i wanted a warmer, softer light. So these are what I wanted. They are a bit difficult to open, to add batteries, but I figured it out. I was pleasantly surprised to find out they are magnetic, and I'm using them that way. Therefore I haven't checked out the adhesive pads provided.

I bought 3 of these and sometime latter, just recently, bought 36 more. I live on a boat, for 13 years. It's dark. I've lived with looking for crap with flashlights for nearly the whole time. They work perfectly, all 39 of them. The flashlights are retired. All the touch light adjusters work, amber is amber and white is white. 39 of 39. I even put one in my fridge, changed my life! lol. I purchased these because the washer and dryer I own do you not have a light inside. Because these are magnetic I simply place one inside while I’m extracting clothes. Not while washing or drying! I would have given an overall rating of five stars however one of the three lights did not work at all which is disappointing and too much of a hassle to return. I will purchase more for other uses.

We need some lighting under our stairs and these work perfect. The adjustable dim to bright white option is great. The adhesive magnet works well even stuck to smooth wood. It's nice that you get extra magnets for moving them as needed.
