Order additional clips or don't even buy them.

Arrived broken. On the right side was only half of the clamp. There is no defective part even in the packing! Something made me buy more clips at the same time. I would use regular clips but I don't want to remove the old ones, I'm afraid of damaging them as I don't have a spare now.

Pros
  • Robust design
Cons
  • Low repairability

Look out for the plastic clips

I would give this a 5 but the plastic clips broke when attaching the locking pins. To be honest I may have been rough with them when closing the clamps without aligning the top and bottom of the clamps. I was able to reuse my old clamps. However, this product fits the original clasp and went in fairly easily. It appears to have been made by the same company as the original clasp.

Pros
  • High tester ratings for grip and durability
Cons
  • Good but not great

Great price given the poor design

If you have a 02-06 Chevy Avalanche you probably had to replace it, or you will soon! Watch a few YouTube videos to see how it's done, or have a mechanic do it for you, as installing a new door requires cutting off part of the tailgate. The bad design is that key parts are plastic, not steel, so depending on how often you use the tailgate, you'll probably need to replace it again. But at least it's cheap and already prepared.

Replace your old plastic clips

As others have said, keep the plastic pusher clips from the old one. Do yourself a favor and change them if they aren't broken. I tried to use this spare part as it was sent. Plastic clamps didn't clamp the pushers tight enough. When I tried to open the tailgate after the complete assembly, the tailgate got stuck in the closed position. After much pain trying to open it, I found that the pushrods pulled straight through the clamps. I did it again and tried again without disabling the access…

Great for the price

I broke my grip on a very cold New England winter day. I installed this replacement on my 2005 Avalanche in about 15 minutes but probably spent another 15 minutes making sure the locking mechanism was working properly. I had to use plastic clips from an old block so I advise you to be careful when removing. This job requires a few torx bits, make sure you have access to a set. I sprayed everything with teflon spray before putting the plastic cap on, hopefully that lasts a little longer. Having…

Pros
  • Easy to read control panel

ready to replace permanently from now on. This is more due to the plastic, which constantly breaks when the temperature changes. This is an annoying shortcoming of the manufacturer, which is unfortunately duplicated by third-party manufacturers. It would be so easy to incorporate metal into the design but apparently nobody cares because I couldn't find anything else. I've seen chrome versions but I'm sure this is some sort of coating on the same plastic. The good thing, if you can call it that,

Exceeds $400 plus dealer's wishes.

Installed everything works. I used the cable clamps that were on it and broke one of the OEM's by pulling the old one out. The installation is above average (no fault of the part) as you either have to cut out part of the tailgate (see YouTube video) or pull out the old one by pulling back a piece of the tailgate (plastic) and then insert the new one (what I did). Since I didn't cut out the pull tab removed in the YouTube videos, I had my wife reach out with her smaller fingers to connect the…

Does the job if you reuse the factory clamps.

Bought to replace the tailgate handle on my 04 Avalanche after it broke this winter. As many other reviewers have noted, the rod clamps that come with this handle simply do NOT hold the rods to pull the latches and open the tailgate. I ended up removing the clips from my original factory grip and putting them on this replacement. So far it seems to be working fine, but it's only been a few weeks. It also seems to me that this button sticks out a bit further than the original, not that big of a…
