Used to connect the generator in the house.

This is a heavy duty connector that I used to make an extension cord to connect our backup generator to its panel. This is the type of high performance connector you need to use for such an application.

Pros
  • Great for outdoor activities
Cons
  • Some cons

not strong enough for 6 or 8 gauge wire

the plug itself looks decent but the connection for the ground wire wasn't strong enough to hold the wire or it may have been damaged. The backing that holds the alternator wire didn't work properly, I sent this item back.

Pros
  • easy install
Cons
  • disappears

Definitely one of the best lockable 50 amp plugs I've seen for the money!

Like I said, great plug, reliable oversized copper connections for large wires, and a neutral and separate center ground point. If only it had an external threaded ring to hold it in place, but it doesn't have to. Buy this!

Pros
  • Decent performance
Cons
  • Modern

Decent quality plug WARNING when plugged in mine was mislabeled

Overall this plug worked as intended but it is worth noting that mine was mislabeled. The connector I received had the appropriate labels and locations molded into the connector to identify the wire colors (W-White/Neutral, G-Green/Ground, X-Hot 1/Black, Y-Hot 2/ red), but to match color coding black and red have been reversed for painted rings. It wasn't a huge problem, but if that crash changed from any of the other connections, you'd immediately produce brief and potentially dangerous…

The second worked but the set screws were poorly designed

I ended up having to return my first one but the replacement works fine. In the first, when I tightened the set screws on 2 of the 4 clamps, the threads were stripped. I opened up the connector and there is a "D" shaped piece of metal where the flat side folds in half and a set screw screws into it. The two layers separate a little, then the set screw won't go into the second layer, and when you tighten it you'll strip the threads on the first layer. My advice: tighten the set screws before…

  • Not the best

Fork but decent quality.

. The deformation damping leaves a lot to be desired, as does the rear wire seal. built. I was happy with the thickness of the molded plastic (i.e. it didn't seem cheap or flimsy). The only spots that bothered me were the strain relief and the rear seal where the wire came out of the fork. The strain relief is weak at best. The design itself isn't bad, but it could be noticeably better. As you can see from the photo, the strain relief is just two plastic levers that snap into fittings on the…
