Description of Savannah 3 Piece Mini Turning Tool Set with Carbide Cutters - Flush Fit Comfort Grip Handles, Steel Riveted Ferrules, Round, Radius Square, and Diamond Shaped Cutters Included

Easy wood turning on your lathe with Savannah Carbide Turning tools. We all know how "enjoyable" sharpening our turning tools can be. We also know that if you don't have the tool at just the right angle when turning, the results can be undesirable. With the Savannah Carbide Mini Turning Tool Set you can eliminate the inconvenience of sharpening your turning tools and with the flat bottom bars on each tool you’ll be able to easily turn most any type of project!. When the carbide cutter on the tool finally dulls, simply loosen the cutter screw, rotate the tip and secure the screw for a fresh, clean cutting edge. Carbide cutters will stay sharper longer when compared to standard turning tools. However, once needed, the cutters are replaceable. This set includes 2 of each cutter style and extra screws. Unlike standard wood turning tools, when using carbide tipped cutters, you keep the cutter straight in on the object you are turning. This produces a shearing action as opposed to the traditional cutting method of standard turning tools. The shearing action of this type of turning produces much cleaner cuts and is easier than using standard turning tools. Each mini turning tool has a Flush Fit Comfort Grip handle. Each handle is approx. 9-1/8" long and has a heavy duty steel ferrule for added strength and support. The steel ferrule is riveted to the handle. Each turning tool steel bar is approx. 33⁄4” long. The set includes 1 ea. round tool, 1 ea. 4 inch radius square tool, 1 ea. diamond shaped tool, 2 ea. round carbide cutters, 2 ea. 4" radius square carbide cutters, 2 ea. diamond shaped carbide cutters, 5 ea. screws (for securing cutters) and 2 ea. hex key wrenches. Also included with this set is a thick, heavy duty carrying case with a removable foam tray liner. The tray is pre-cut so the turning tools neatly fit into the tray to keep them from sliding around. The tray can be removed so the carrying case can be repurposed for any type of tool or accessory storage you choose. The set comes with basic carbide turning tool instructions. The basic thought process to help produce consistent, high quality cuts is to use one cutter on your tool for all the roughing out or hogging out of material and use a second cutter dedicated to finishing cuts only. This will substantially prolong the life of your finishing cutter. Take your time and significantly slow down the rate of movement across the surface of the wood. This will give the cutter more time to make cleaner, smoother cuts. Remember; the slower your travel the tool, the cleaner and smoother the final cut will be. Forcing the tool into your stock will not produce optimal results. Whenever its time to replace a cutter we recommend that you lightly grease the threads on the socket screw. Any type of machine grease will work to help keep it lubricated.

A GREAT TURNING TOOL SET THAT IS WORTH IT.

I am very impressed with this wood turning tool set. I've been a locksmith for over 30 years. and have used carbide turning tools to turn several exotic metals as well as carbon steel, stainless steel, chrome molybdenum steel, titanium and many more. I am currently on SS disability for lower back and neck injuries. So I'm trying to use my machinist skills by trying to turn wood instead of metal. I was having trouble with a regular wood turning tool so I decided to try these tools with carbide…

Pros
  • When the tool's carbide tip is completely dull, simply loosen the cutting edge screw, rotate the tip and tighten the screw for a fresh, clean cutting edge. Carbide milling cutters stay sharp longer than conventional turning tools. However, if necessary, the incisors can be replaced. This set includes 2 cutters and additional screws.
Cons
  • Requires a socket

Ok Starter Carbide - Power and Hand Tools

These are nice looking tools for beginners, the handles are really good. I needed smaller tools to work with jewelry and I've always wanted to try carbide. I have a few cheap HSS tools that ground almost nothing and wanted to avoid looking for high quality HSS jewelry tools. I have not cut with these tools yet. When inspecting, the dimensions of the hard alloy are not displayed. The thread sizes are not specified, as is the size of the set screw. The edges of the carbide appear chipped and…

Pros
  • The basic idea for making consistent, quality cuts is to use one edge on the tool for roughing or roughing material and a second edge for fine cutting only. This will significantly increase the life of your finishing cutter.

Look no further. just get them!

I am new to woodturning. I didn't even touch the lathe until a week ago. After months of research, I decided to start my woodworking hobby idea and started uploading my shopping cart. Well, I decided to use carbide-tipped tools. I ordered a Delta 46-460 lathe, a Nova chuck and some safety gear to start this business and so far that's all I need. These tools were easy enough to learn how to use. As with anything, there is a learning curve. I've never touched turning tools in my life, and I've…

Pros
  • Turning light wood on a lathe with Savannah Carbide turning tools. We all know how "pleasant" sharpening our lathe tools can be. We also know that if you don't hold the tool at the right angle while turning, the results can be undesirable. Eliminate the hassle of sharpening your turning tools with the Savannah Carbide Mini Turning Tool Set, and the flat bottom bars on each tool mean you can sharpen almost any type of project with ease!
Cons
  • Some difficulties

Like the tools, they are comfortable to hold and move well on the tool rest. Of course they are very sharp and will quickly deal with anything you shoot. Since I've usually made most of my pencils with a notch, I've never felt comfortable with skew. Nevertheless, the square instrument interested me little. So I immediately ordered a Ci2-R2 cutter and immediately exchanged the square cutter. The following are my impressions based on my not-so-professional opinion and limited to making pens. It…

Pros
  • In contrast to standard wood turning tools, when using carbide-tipped milling cutters you hold the milling cutter directly on the object to be turned. This creates a shearing action as opposed to the traditional cutting method of standard rotary tools. The cutting action of this type of turning gives much cleaner cuts and is easier than with standard turning tools.
Cons
  • Not as thick as other cutting tools

I've been plugging and unplugging firewood for almost 20 years. I have expensive Robert Sorby instruments and cheap HFs nearby. People may notice my high quality Vicmarc shark jaw chuck mounted on a HF lathe that costs half the price. I didn't have carbide before this set and I like them. Carbide is characterized by hard materials. I found the flat surface was a good reminder not to use it as a traditional tool that often requires the bevel to move across the workpiece. Keep them flat and even…

Pros
  • This kit also includes a heavy-duty, thick carry case with removable foam liner. The tray is pre-punched so turning tools fit snugly in the tray and stay in place. The tray is removable allowing the tote to be reused for any type of tool or accessory storage of your choosing. The kit includes basic instructions for turning carbide tools.
Cons
  • Hardly ever
