This item is perfect for me. I have an old monitor/TV with no HDMI input. I tried a component/HDMI device but it requires an additional power supply, but I wanted a passive one instead. I use it without power but it extracts my audio which I feed to the monitor via RCA jacks (requires 3.5mm to RCA cable). The picture is perfect and has no background lines.

Using this adapter with IBM P260. This is the fourth HDMI to VGA adapter I've tried in search of an adapter that can unlock the full potential of my monitor. It was the only adapter that could run 1600 x 1200 at 85 Hz and 1920 x 1440 at 70 Hz without artifacts. I have a new monitor that works fine with HDMI except I can't see my BIOS on boot. HDMI doesn't actually show anything until Windows starts. The solution for those of us with monitors showing this issue (on other high-end monitors) is to plug in the monitor's VGA port on the rare occasion that the BIOS menu is required. Four stars for this product because it really exceeded my expectations. First of all, out of the four devices I tested, all showed a picture and had sound. I've tried Sega Genesis Mini, Laptop, Switch and Fire Stick. All worked with reservations. Everyone had to adjust the scaling settings to keep the image from being cropped.
