I am buying several of these VelociRaptor drives. They are no longer available as new. Mine worked great and I actually saw an increase in read/write times. The only noise I sometimes hear is the internal movement of the heads as the drive reads/accesses data. for the most part it is completely silent. You won't be bothered by the noise it makes. This drive was designed for a workstation, not a home PC, but it works great as a main drive. It would be better (safer as we need to keep a backup…

Incredible Performance

I bought 2 W/D 74 Gig Raptors 8-10 years ago and they both still work great. I bought this hard drive for my dash cam. I won't mention my service provider who provides great TV service but I have used about 4 DVRs in the 4 or 5 years I have had this service due to hard drive failures. The dash cam uses a Segate hard drive which I failed in about a year or less after which I lose all my recordings. When my replacement DVR arrived I downloaded and set up a new DVR, then took it apart and…

Noisy but better option than a hybrid

I even remember not long ago that 10,000 rpm hard drives were only for dream machines and the prices reflected that, but now with SSD these things are pretty reasonable. I've replaced most of my computers with SSDs, but one of them had a 1TB 7200RPM boot drive that I really didn't want to disassemble to use a smaller SSD since 1TB SSDs still exist are insanely expensive. Before trying this I bought a hybrid drive (which is actually based on a 5600rpm drive) and tried it for a few months and…

Always wanted one. for internal hard drives

I received this along with a fresh copy of Windows 10 Pro which I plan to install on this drive when my Win 8.1 drive is almost full. (Currently, this may be the case shortly.) I'm planning to take my old black 1TB WD drive, make a drive out of it, and install the OS on that drive. A friend of mine had one and I was really impressed with its speed and reliability. When Win 10 came out I decided to buy a new WD Velociraptor to get it working. At $199.99 for a brand new drive that retailed for…
