🪱 Virbac Preventic Collar - 25 inches - Single Collar: Tick Prevention at its Best! Review

I used to order a Virbac Preventic collar for my dog every 3 months and it has worked. The last one I received had no odor or whitish powder residue, which is believed to be the active ingredient it was pre-dipped in. The collar I received was just a piece of white plastic and didn't work. I am very disappointed and will not order again. NOT THE COLLAR LIKE BEFORE!

One of our rescue dogs was suddenly covered in ticks! (Ticks are nasty little demons that can live over 2 years without eating a dog!) Ehrlichia is a nuisance in our area so ticks are dangerous (2 dogs died from it. Terrible disease). Local prophylactic treatment did not help. So we put a safety collar on him. It took a few days but it worked. Reducing dozens of ticks per day to one or two ticks.

I have been using this brand for 25 years and have NEVER had a tick problem with ANY of my dogs. They last about 3 months if you take them off near water. No size problem, just cut as needed. I will say that they increased the price of these collars, but they were VERY useful for fighting ticks, they never had fleas. I have used prophylactic collars before and had good results. This year I had a dog that I removed a tick or two from almost every day. The dog was chased and lined with straw, which only became a problem. I read reviews of some other more expensive collars and finally settled on what I knew. Since the dog was put on prophylaxis, I haven't had a single tick. In my experience, these collars just work. I highly recommend them.

I have purchased this collar several times and have used it on our dogs. Earlier collars always worked wonders. Absence of ticks almost immediately after attachment to dogs. The last two collars didn't work at all, not even a little. I am very disappointed as I have previously praised and recommended this brand. Not sure if it was a bad batch or if the formula was changed. I also have to say that we didn't do anything differently, the collars never got wet and were put on our dogs correctly.

We have been using this brand of tick collar on our dog for several years now and it works very well. When we received it last month, 2/2021, we found that the expiration date was 2/2021. While the packaging has not been opened and the collar will likely still be effective when we use it on our dog in April or May, we don't think the seller should have shipped a product that expires the same month it ships became us. Therefore we could not give 5 stars.

My other dogs have Seresto collars and they don't have a single tick. I wanted to try this in a new rescue as it was cheaper and had good reviews. Now the dog has more ticks than before the collar. I have used these collars on my large breed dogs for many years. I used them together with Frontline Plus. The tick collar lasts 3 months and Frontline Plus promises a month. I have found Frontline to be most effective for the first few days of that 30 day period, allowing the tick collar to protect my dogs between uses of Frontline. I use this collar on my golden retriever and it works better than anything we've tried. I didn't wear a collar for aesthetic reasons alone, so I used all sorts of tick protection methods. The over-the-counter topical gel and the vet-prescribed gel smell horrible and stop working every time it jumps in the water, and the chewable tablets don't work.
