Serious setup issue - Reduce your router's WiFi security (temporarily).

Straight to the solution: Change your home WiFi security. The smart plug could not connect to my home network when security was set to WPA2-PSK (AES). I reduced security to WPA-PSK (TKIP). Here is my experience: There is a serious problem setting up the Wemo Mini Wi-Fi Smart Plug. By following the Let's Go instructions, I was able to connect to the device using my phone's WiFi and launch the Wemo app. After a few steps, the app will prompt you to connect to your home WiFi. And at this point the

Complete rubbish - do not buy

I am blown away by the high ratings this product is getting here and elsewhere. My experience included several moments of frustration and anger. I know I am not alone as I have read many reviews all saying the same thing - the device cannot connect to some networks. After two hours of excitement, it became pretty clear that the device failed to connect to either my 2.4GHz or 5GHz wireless network (the latter couldn't even be identified). The app would crash every time connecting with a password

Known issues prevent WiFi connection

Wemo Mini Smart Plugs will not connect to 2.4GHz wireless home automation network. As an IT director with over 20 years of experience setting up and managing networks, you might think that installing a simple WIFI-enabled smart plug would be an easy task, and it should be. However, after nearly 4 hours of trying to fix this issue, I was finally able to confirm that this is a common issue that Wemo's "engineers" have been "working" on for over 2 years. My router is ASUS RT-AC5300. I have…

FIRE HAZARD Best Electrician

We've had two Wemo Mini Smart Plugs (model F7C063) for a few months and have just bought two more from Revain. When we had lunch in the same room with one of the outlets, it smelled like smoke. The oldest plug (bought from Revain last December) started smoking and melted a hole in the top right side (halfway between the Hotline plug and the outlet). At this point, the 40-watt CFL lightbulb connected to Wemo was not on. There is no water in the area and no one touched the Wemo mini plugged into…

Terrible app in plugs

5 stars for the hardware but 1 star for the app. The application is clumsy in configuring the rules. Opening an app or clicking the refresh button to see the device's status, whether it's on or off, is rarely the right thing to do. It's like it's not updating the actual socket state, but rather updating what the app thinks the devices' state was when it was last launched. For example, use your phone and tablet to install the app. And you have registered 1 socket and the socket is definitely…

Works great but it's not a clap on clap off device

I like this switch but it's not for the uninitiated. You MUST know a thing or two about installing 'smart' devices on your WiFi network and using the apps on your smartphone or tablet or you're totally lost! " Gadget. Installation was a simple task - just plug it in and connect your device. It's the communication part that can be intimidating for those not used to it. A couple of things: Make sure that you have a strong enough WiFi network, make sure your smartphone or tablet is connected to…
