Super Adhesives: Glues, Sealants & Lubricants

I've used butyl tape occasionally for 25 years. Butyl tape is at the heart of the RV industry and I hate the love for it. For those of us with an RV/trailer/5. Rad we know how cheap RV companies are to build things when they can literally save a penny. I don't think the RV industry uses this stuff as a de facto standard, but they really should. I love how sticky the stuff is and for the most part really doesn't work when it gets hot like some other junk out there. I'm in Arizona so I know HOT…

  • Consistent test results
Cons
  • I don't really like anything, everything is fine

Sealed window on my camper van

Used to seal a leaking window on my camper van door. It's really sticky stuff. The company emailed me the info before my order arrived with processing tips - put it in the fridge a few hours before use - and it worked great. The tape was too wide for my application, but once cool, I was able to easily cut it in half with titanium-coated scissors and place it in the channels on the frame. (not sure if the coating of the scissors had an impact on the tape not sticking to it or not). This material

Very sticky Suitable for tape

I would prefer this product to be 1/4" to 1/2" wide. Used on my closed moving trailer to reseal where the front metal panel connects to the galvanized metal stone shield on the bottom front of the trailer. The trailer is 16 years old and the previously used gasket that was used where the two surfaces meet is beginning to fail causing water to enter and damage some of the wood on the lower front of the trailer. I had to remove the sheet metal. The screws on the bottom metal piece are enough to…

Works as advertised!

This stuff works great. Shortly after we bought it, someone tried to get into our new car through the sunroof and bent the frame of the sunroof. This caused the glass back to not close properly and water to leak from the washer system, which is why we found the sunroof not closing properly. After the insurance adjuster and dealer assessed the damage, the service manager told me to use duct tape to keep the water out until the replacement parts arrived. But I wouldn't drive a black car with blue

Pros
  • Easy install
Cons
  • Ugly packaging

I used this butyl sealing tape for the first time on an old Ford Ranger windscreen. As for the company that replaced the windshield after it was shattered by a rock, I'm not very happy. Your seal on the driver's side was gone when I drove through a brushless car wash. I was in dire need of a replacement and didn't want to look for an original gasket before winter set in. So I bought this tape and it blended in well and completely blocked the snow and ice that we had this winter season. The…

Didn't get stuck where I had to - Underwater!

I purchased this butyl tape to try and mend a seam in a fillet weld on my perineum that has gaps of 1/16" to 3/8" but is submerged. My plan was to apply this butyl tape underwater (during the actual tape installation) and was hoping that pushing the flexible tape into the "gaps" on the surface would help hold it in place. The water temperature was from mid to 60 degrees. The surface material I was attempting to apply butyl tape to was steel. I suspect there was no real adhesion for three…
