Works as advertised

Bought two for good swimmers 7 and 9 as we were supposed to be in a deep muddy lake and wanted to calm down. The girls found it was just the help they needed to swim for hours. They untied the belt easily when going down to look for turtles etc but otherwise liked 2 or 3 buoys and a belt.

Not recommended for sport

This puts a strain on my son as it keeps him afloat less than a life jacket. But that doesn't help his form in any way (keeps his bum upright instead of floating straight up). When you put it on, it wraps itself around his upper back every time. We didn't use it. Well my son used one of the prizes as a frisbee in the pool ;) Unfortunately it was a waste of money.

This is a great alternative to hand floats

This is a great alternative to hand floats. They help keep the kid afloat, but still have a little work to do. They can use their hands to learn to swim, which I really like. There are 4 foam pads, as they improve you can remove the pad to reduce buoyancy until you can swim without it. We first saw them when my oldest son swam at the YMCA and have now bought them for each of our children.

Ideal for those who don't want to swim or learn.

My two sons don't like swimming and spend little time in the pool. They loved their puddle jumpers and swam alone in them, but outgrew them. They are now 7 and 8 years old and stay in shallow water where their feet can touch the bottom. These swimmers are amazing. They gave my boys confidence that they could swim in the correct position without fear of accidentally going underwater. I wish I knew they existed 5 or 6 years ago!

This is a great product. I started with the "cute " parts of the .

I bought this last summer and my granddaughter couldn't stay in the pool well enough to use it. This summer is a different story - she is now 2 1/2 years old. This is a great product. I started "cutting off" pieces of foam so she could learn to rely less on it. You can cut one piece at a time, but cutting off the pieces makes the process more gradual. When I purchased this item I was looking for a bladder that you put on a baby that slowly releases air as it develops and it seems they are no…

Recommended by a family member

My son (3.5 years old) hates getting his face wet. Apparently this is causing a problem in the pool. I had those swimmers they sell at Target, which is some sort of life jacket with inflatable sleeves (I forgot the brand name) and he was good at it, but it stopped him from using his arms to swim and also from being brave to be. Swimming pool. That was excellent. Now he runs around in the paddling pool without a swimmer, uses it in the main pool, and keeps trying to dip his head deeper and…

Great as other reviewers have said

This worked great for my 4.5 year old who takes classes at the YMCA for about a year off and on. They use a similar product but it's not adjustable (in terms of buoyancy) like this one, which is great. Given my son's ability (nearly good dog paddling with minimal back support), I immediately removed one of the pads and it kept him afloat - and facing ahead - as he swam in the pool on a recent vacation. (He weighs 40 pounds I think). I agree with others that I would not give this to a 2 or even…

Ideal for a water-shy 2-year-old

My son was very afraid of water in early summer (2.5 years at the time). I've always used Puddle Jumper on my daughter so I assumed he could handle it too. Every time I put him in the water with the puddle jumper he screamed. I literally had to carry it around the pool with me. I bought this after seeing a swimming instructor use it on my daughter (4). We were in the pool one day and she wanted to swim alone so I thought I'd see what would happen if I put this on my son and to my surprise he…

Perfect for boosting confidence when learning to swim

Water Gear Backstroke Progressive Split Float (Orange) (1) This backstroke works great. My grandson is 44 pounds and this swimmer keeps his head above the water so he can paddle and paddle in the correct swimming position. He really likes this swimmer as he can "swim" in the pool without being held down and wearing a rescue device. In the pool there is always an adult next to him, since this is not a lifeline, but a device that will help the child learn to swim. This allowed him to gain the…
