Review on 27 Inch Samsung LED Monitor S27C500H with 1920X1080P Resolution by Daryl Lee

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Great picture, great price

Trust someone who knows picture quality, this monitor has a great picture. It's natural, realistic and vivid, with accurate colors and a good viewing angle. White tends to be a bit warm, which can easily be adjusted using the built-in color settings. However, I do like the white balance, so I leave it alone unless I'm doing serious photo editing. The screen is very bright, but it's comfortable to watch for hours at full brightness. I also appreciate that it's 1080p, ideal for watching HD movies in their native resolution. I've seen slightly better screens so I'd give it a 4/5 on that score, but given the reasonable price and great build quality I'll give it a 5/5 overall. The standard picture settings were almost perfect. , right out of the box. I only had to change one setting and that was selecting Gamma Mode 2. I ran the windows display color calibration and noticed that the gamma was slightly different. Instead of changing it in Windows, I used the monitor's built-in gamma setting. I recommend color calibrating on every new screen and fixing problems with your monitor settings instead of changing your windows settings. But I'm picky about colors and most people probably don't even need to tweak these settings. Many monitors have cumbersome buttons and bulky menus, but Samsung's interface is great. Instead of physical buttons, the controls are touch areas. They don't bring the menu to the center of the screen, but rather right above the controls, with arrows clearly showing each button's function. A quick menu appears first, allowing you to adjust the brightness and input type, or select a Magicbright preset, allowing the novice user to easily adjust the basic settings. Press the menu button a second time and you'll get advanced settings, including color balance, sharpness, zoom modes, eco mode and the aforementioned gamma adjustment. The list of options is pretty extensive and gives you control over the finer details, but as I mentioned, everything is set up pretty well. The monitor itself looks attractive, with a touch of red under the black casing. As mentioned, it cannot be built in and there is no height adjustment, but there is a tilt adjustment. On the other hand, there is no DVI input. This is common with newer monitors, so if you only have a DVI output you will need to purchase a DVI to HDMI cable. I don't recommend using VGA as it has the worst picture quality. There are no built-in speakers (which sound terrible anyway). Those are really the only nitpicks I can find about this monitor. Samsung is known for good, reliable hardware and this monitor is no exception. Although it's a bit cheaper and pricier models might have a few extra bells and whistles, this monitor looks great and has good features. Overall I am very happy with this purchase.

Pros
  • I have this and LG 27 inch. I think this one is lighter. And the price is amazing.
Cons
  • good product for the bucks but ripples roll across the screen.
