Better with soldering - it won't leak

I read reviews about this product and finally soldered the seam at the bottom of the lantern. With this modification, it does not flow at all. I used 60/40 .032 resin core solder and it worked great. In addition, the burn marks of the torch appear more authentic and rustic. See photo.

Pros
  • Useful not only for its intended purpose
Cons
  • Working speed

Great invention about blue

I love this lantern! Easy to ignite and extinguish. I've had the old blue for 40 years but this new one with improved technology is fantastic! It's worth the extra cost. And I should know, I have 12 glass lamps with shades that I have restored throughout the house, plus two vintage blue barn lamps that have never given me a minute of trouble, but a high-tech whack on a portable barn lamp does so much. Difference! So an oriental light, wick finish and large fuel tank will burn all day or all…

Pros
  • Durable test results
Cons
  • Almost everything there

Nice looking and working lamp

When it comes to these modern oil lamps these Dietz models are among the best. They're not as strong as the antique ones, especially when you use the lever to raise the chimney... it feels like you're about to bend/break something. But it looks great, I haven't had any issues with leaks (I think 90% of people who complain about it just fill it up) and IF YOU USE THE RIGHT FUEL it burns bright and efficiently. That's the most important thing you need to know. This lamp uses a flat, wide wick…

Pros
  • Ideal for outdoor activities
Cons
  • Low maintenance

Cheap Chinese Home Accessories

Looks good but has some design issues that probably arose when production moved to China. The wick is offset from the center of the crown and tilted to one side. It blocked airflow to the entire side of the wick because it wouldn't go out, and the hole literally touched the crown along the entire width of the wick. I managed to get the wick down far enough to insert a large flathead screwdriver and bend the guide so the wick is away from the crown, but the wick assembly still doesn't line up…

Pros
  • Great for me
Cons
  • No Instructions
