Poor image and text quality

DO NOT BUY THIS BOOK! This is a greyscale reproduction of the full color book. Poor image and text quality. I returned it.

The ASA version of this book is high quality

The ASA version of this book is high quality and full color printing. If you don't like reading from the screen, this is what you need.

Pros
  • Free for educational purposes
Cons
  • Questionable purchase for the elderly

Great information but many errors in the Kindle version.

Great contribution to Soaring, but the Kindle version is terrible. Has many missing or misplaced images and large blocks of text. Get it as a free PDF from the FAA's website instead. Fly safe!

Pros
  • Absolutely amazing!
Cons
  • Not the best

A MUST for anyone who wants to get into gliding!

I have a private pilot license and am considering adding a glider rating. This is a very informative, well written MUST HAVE reference book - for anyone interested in gliding!

Pros
  • Price
Cons
  • Negative gift

I ordered this book to replace a worn 2003 edition. This FAA publication was in dire need of revision. This reissue is even worse. The paper is less bright white and the text is fuzzy. The same tables, charts and figures that were printed in color in previous editions are now rendered in blurred shades of gray. The version of this book published by ASA is printed in color. I am returning this version to the FAA. This book doesn't even deserve one star.

Pros
  • High test scores for support and durability
Cons
  • Expensive

A good first adult gliding book

The book begins with a discussion of ADM or aviation decision making and continues with a systematic arrangement of items a glider pilot should know got to. knows. Both the introduction and the explanations focus on the information that the pilot should use to make decisions that lead to safe flight. I have read more technically rigorous explanations of subjects discussed elsewhere, but I have rarely seen them compiled in a format that allows the pilot to understand and then apply them…

Pros
  • Delivery was very quick
Cons
  • It's ok

Latest version (2013); The pressure is good; Paper thin

The previous edition of GFH (FAA-H-8083-13 and dated 2003) was printed by Skyhorse. It was printed on calendered (coated) paper and was much more durable than the current version printed by ASA. However, this new version is top notch, although probably 95% of the information is exactly the same as the previous one. Previous version. The inscription is clear; Diagrams, illustrations and photographs are clear with good color and contrast. Most of the illustrations have been redrawn from the…

Pros
  • Value for money
