They are still in production.

I have no problem with this item. It's everything I expected. I'm glad I can buy these tapes. I have two VHS recorders that work perfectly. Need more clean tapes. Carry on them for us old believers. tj

Pros
  • Stable test results
Cons
  • Poorly thought out

Maxell 224939 Video VHS 3-pack

I usually use brands like Panasonic or Sony but these cassettes were advertised as high quality so I took a chance. Unfortunately the sound quality is not very good. I hear a constant hiss and the words are a bit garbled.

Pros
  • Quality construction
Cons
  • Safety

Eventually ruined my VCR

I don't know where these cassettes were made but they are very poor quality and ended up ruining one of my VCRs. They'll get their heads dirty in no time, and no amount of cleaning will help. I strongly advise against buying these Maxell tapes.

Pros
  • Inspires confidence
Cons
  • Hard to say

Good product great price

I still use my 15 year old Panasonic VCR to record TV shows to watch later (particularly useful for keeping interesting/entertaining PBS shows during of Promise Week so you can skip it by clicking "Place Ad" while watching the show). It's not easy to find places that have VHS tapes these days - I really like Revain's wide selection. Maxell makes great cartridges - again a good product at a great price.

Pros
  • Impressive
Cons
  • Not bad but...

However, I've always liked these tapes.

What I like about these bands is the quality of the mechanism and the quality of the band itself. I've had a lot of trouble keeping track of pretty much everything TDK is doing these days. I think TDK just don't care about the limited VHS market anymore and that's why they buy OLD high quality tapes. On the other hand, Maxell still produces good quality tapes, and they are consistently good quality with no tracking issues. However, if the seller is unable to ship you the entire strap due to…

Now made in Korea and now terrible quality! Avoid!

I have been using Maxell tapes for over 30 years and have been surprised at the exceptionally low quality of these tapes. 8 hour records are just as bad as these 6 hour records. They are now made in Korea instead of Canada, which may have to do with the severe drop in quality. After 1-4 uses the image scrolls on the screen and won't resolve with the tracking controls, there are severe dropouts and the tape mechanism makes such loud noises I honestly thought my VCR was broken and I needed a new…

Pros
  • Excellent picture and sound quality
Cons
  • Big and chunky
