Precision that won't break the bank

Great tool. reads exactly. simply calibrated. Comes with a great protective case to keep it safe when not in use, as well as a small screwdriver for calibration and a dropper for your samples. My only criticism would be that it's too dark. I have to hold the glass almost directly up to the light source to see it really clearly, but if you stand next to an open window during the day everything is fine. At night there is not enough ambient light in the room and it makes what you see appear dark…

Pros
  • Handy item
Cons
  • So far, so good

Calibration with Specialty Aquarium Fluid 1.026

Specialty Aquarium Calibration Fluid 1.026 must be purchased and adjusted to this level. Otherwise, the device can be disabled easily enough to cause damage, especially when adding livestock. Animals can adapt to higher or lower salinity levels in your tank over time, but if you think you have 1.026 and your tank doesn't, new animals will be shocked. Check the bagged water for new animals and acclimate - if you do this you'll know what the drift is, but the refractometer needs to be calibrated…

Pros
  • Good product for the price
Cons
  • Thin

1021-1025, then it's okay, don't stress

Originally bought a hydrometer how to install it in a salt water tank. Did some research and saw people claiming they are better for accuracy. You seem to be right about the accuracy. However, my underwater hydrometer lags behind by a mark or two. Anyway, now I have both and can double check the aquarium water with each. I don't have any coral yet, so as long as it's above the true mark, no higher. The higher the reading, the happier I am and the fish will be fine too. I've been into this hobby
