It took me 40 minutes to tie! It's just like tying a shoelace, but harder because it's not a string. Also if you have it in a mirror you will get very confused. Just get it close, then stop looking at the mirror and tie your laces on your neck. then straighten it out in the mirror. This is an amazing hat if you really want to stay warm in the freezing temps. I bought this along with my icelandic glovess and neck warmer for the days where the temps dip below freezing.
