Mining is a process of verifying and adding transactions to the blockchain digital ledger for various forms of cryptocurrency.
Since only one miner, the hardware of whom has discovered the correct sequence, is rewarded upon the block generation, a solo miner can go on for quite a while without getting a single correct sequence, especially when they’re mining highly-competitive coins like BTC.
Thus, the mining pools exist. For a small fee, they’re pooling the resources of miners, who share their processing power over a network, and split any rewards equally, according to the amount of work (their processing power) their members contributed to the probability of finding a block.
