Ethereum is 2nd to none but Bitcoin. Ether/eum is a cryptocurrency just like Bitcoin except it allows you to create tamper-proof contracts. These contracts are used as proof of ownership in the same way that you and I would sign transfer papers to purchase/sell a vehicle. These digital contracts are 'uploaded' into the Ethereum network and become a part of the blockchain.
