Review on LG 27UK650-W Monitor: FreeSync Technology, 4K Ultra HD, Tilt & Height Adjustment, Anti-Glare IPS Screen by Andy Owen

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Great for Xbox One X

4.5/5 stars! Just got this for my Xbox One X after doing tons of research and finding that it's the only monitor that supports 4K, FreeSync over HDMI, HDR and is built (at least in part) for gaming. Review: Great looking monitor, but at $550 I expected a little more. PROS: - Excellent picture quality - 4K HDR compatible - FreeSync over HDMI support CONS: Noticeable input lag (see below for details). Not "real" HDR Has no built-in dynamics for input lag. It's not bad, but it's noticeable if you look for it. I'm not able to measure it accurately, but I did notice a very slight delay between pressing a button on the controller and seeing the response on screen. Compared to my BenQ RL2455HM (a monitor known for its very low input lag), I didn't notice any difference, so it may be my head, or maybe my expectations are too high. About HDR. I say it's not realistic because technically full HDR support requires 1000 nits of brightness, and this monitor goes up to 450 nits. However, there are still no good gaming monitors that support full HDR 1000 nits (at least not in the sub-$1000 range), and 450 nits is still plenty and enough to support a noticeable HDR effect, so it is not that big of a deal. . Having built-in speakers didn't really bother me since I only use them for headphone gaming, but it would have been nice to have at least basic speakers, and for $550 I was expecting speakers. However, it does have a handy 3.5mm audio-out/headphone jack for external speakers or headphones, and the Xbox One X lets you output audio to headphones, external speakers, or an audio receiver via HDMI or optical. In the end I was very happy with this monitor and would rather keep it than wait another 6 months to 1 year for a better monitor to come out. I aborted a launch due to input lag and HDR issues, but again this is a fantastic gaming monitor for the new Xbox One X and the only one (to my knowledge) that supports all major Xbox gaming features, but he's not perfect so i deducted a star. UPDATE March 2018: I just found out that Freesync doesn't work on Xbox One X yet, but will be available in Spring 2018 update! It's actually Freesync 2 which reduces input lag and improves HDR performance and also keeps console/monitor in sync at a much lower frame rate!
