Shaft marks are accurate

Shaft marks are fairly accurate (checked with calipers) So that saves me having to set with a ruler. Once installed and tightened, I've had no issues with it slipping off the setup. It turns out a useful line. I have two of these. I leave one fixed at 3/8 inch.

Pros
  • A few competitors
Cons
  • Something else

Only buy this if it is a paperweight

Marking wheel was very dull, "couldn't cut soft butter". The stock had deep dents from the grip being overtightened. "Stamping" with gold, very difficult to see on a black background. I'm glad I ordered the real one from Lee Valley, shipping is fast too.

Pros
  • Excellent construction
Cons
  • Crumpled

Blunt blade is best in scribers

Blunt blade straight out of the box. The visible ridge rolled over as if it were a tiny case scraper. Thought I'd return if the dull blade reviews turned out to be correct. I'm not interested in sharpening a new marking gauge. If QC is that bad then I can't/don't want to trust his good design. To return

Pros
  • Convenient item
Cons
  • Not safe

Cutting wheel too small

The cutting wheel is so small in diameter that it hardly tears hardwood or softwood, and the screw holding it is too small. it's ok, but it's only ok, changed wheels from another one i own, different brand and larger diameter which made it usable. Now I have two, one for each hand. beware.

Pros
  • Sleek design
Cons
  • Problem

Great tool, good quality.

I liked the product. I'm new to use. It's a bit awkward to keep a straight cutting line in the wood. It moves up and down as I slide over it. It changes the angles on the control side of the marker and makes the drawn line vibrate. I feel like I need to practice more. The metal is of excellent quality, the numbers are easy to read even with poor eyesight.

Pros
  • cool product
Cons
  • not trendy

IGaging, great products. Delivery is bumpy

When I buy something and iGaging has it, I buy it and nobody else buys it. I really like their products in my store. I'll order another one but I'm waiting and hoping they pack it in something other than just bubble wrap. He was terribly bent. I stopped at UPS to send it back and got my money back the next day. IGaging products are good, shipping is rough.

Pros
  • Delivery was very fast
Cons
  • Questionable purchase for seniors

The cutting edge is sharp enough to leave a nice line on the work piece

This was exactly what I was looking for. The surface of the sensor is smooth and follows the edge of the wood without binding or sticking. The cutting edge is quite sharp and leaves a nice line on the workpiece. The markings (both imperial and metric) on the shaft are easy to read. There is a small problem with this. If you push the sensor to the right side, the screw holding the knife can loosen and cause wandering.

Pros
  • Free for educational purposes
Cons
  • Fine

The knife is dull but otherwise great

The cutting disc leaves almost no marks, even on pine straight out of the box. I suspect this is at least partly due to some sort of paint or other coating on the wheel. I sharpened it and now it cuts fine. Otherwise there are few things that should be good for a marking gauge and it falls within those markings. - The fence is flat. any reason. However if you measure center to center you will see that it is square. The shaft fits the hole well and snugly, maybe a little too tight as it doesn't…

Pros
  • Ideal for a small home
Cons
  • -
