Review on WallETH by Olugbenga Ajayi

Walleth is a wallet with too ordinary functionalities

Walleth is a centralized, HD wallet, developed by the ethereum core developer, Ligi.

Walleth offers basic functions of a wallet like sending and receiving funds. However, if you are a user that is only comfortable with manually entering public addresses, don't bother to use walleth since it only support the use QR codes.

The wallet is meant for holding tokens from ethereum network but not all. For instance while it can hold erc-20, it doesn't hold erc-721.

I see this wallet too ordinary. It doesn't offer basic functionalities of a wallet.

Pros
  • The software is open source and can be verified on GitHub
  • It is simple to use with well labelled button on the interface
  • For better security, it allows user to connect to hardware wallets
Cons
  • It does not have an inbuilt Exchange. In an era where most wallet offers trading functionalities, having a wallet without it may not be encouraging
  • It only support tokens from ethereum network and not even all of them
  • Security challenges could emanate from it dependent on a third party for API
  • It doesn't allow manual entry of addresses. Only QR codes can be scanned. This can pose added challenges for newbies
  • It doesn't use 2 factor authentication for security
  • It doesn't support IOS or other OS yet. Only Android is supported.
  • Not a decentralized wallet
