Reliable product as advertised

I was looking for a way to shoot outdoors without worrying about my camera falling off in the wind. The solid, weighted base features a swivel mechanism that allows you to change the angle of the shot. This product is beautifully built and reliable. However, it's a bit heavy to carry, so plan ahead.

Perfect accessory for on the go

I recently used an OctoPad XL and carbon fiber pole instead of a monopod or tripod to climb Moro Rock in Sequoia National Park. Trail 400 steps, 800 return. With this setup I was able to set it up and pick it up in no time. with a phone, a GoPro or even a stabilizer. The ball joint came in handy for spots that weren't quite as flat. Nice addition to my outfit. I am an Adaptable (Disabled, SCI/Paralyzed) Tourist for the Triumph Foundation. The OctoPad XL allowed me to keep my gear light and…

Read my review so you don't get confused.

IMPORTANT NOTICE. Do not screw on the mini ball head too tight. This stand is really good, it's a cheap ball head that gives me a headache. The ball head has I'm not sure what the technical term for such a bolt is, but let's call it "double bolt". A 1/4 screw threads into a larger screw, 1/2 I believe. I screwed a mini projector onto the thing, probably too tight. When I unscrewed the projector, the 1/4 screw was stuck, meaning it was unscrewed WITH the projector. So the 1/4 screw moved away…

A very useful tool. Turn your table into a tripod!

I had some doubts that this device could carry a full-size single-lens digital SLR camera, but after taking it out of the box and feeling the weight, I was pleasantly surprised. The OctoPad XL is large and heavy enough to provide a stable platform for my 80D with an 18-135 kit lens (a lighter lens). lots of glass up front can cause a rollover. However, with the included lens, it's reliable and much faster and more convenient for quick photos than using multiple tripod legs. The only drawback…

Pros
  • Durable Test Results
Cons
  • Almost everything included

Works great with a fully loaded heavy Mikon D500.

I already have the original Octopad which fits easily in my Nikon D5300 with most of my lenses. My main photographer is the Nikon D500, which is too big and heavy for it. I've included photos to show how the Octopad XL compares to the original. It's a lot bigger and heavier. The extra weight is important when your gear is as heavy as mine. Of course, you will feel the extra weight when carrying the Octopad around. So if your gear doesn't call for an XL, you can use the smaller version. Both…
