Amazing picture quality compared to 7R III

Breathtaking image quality straight from the camera. Haven't used it for wildlife yet but have done some great landscapes and portraits. The difference in image quality compared to the 7R III is clear. Also made the switch from Nikon D810 to the whole setup. I'm glad I made this decision. We recommend the following lenses for this. )

  • Absolutely amazing!

Focus doesn't work well for camera and photo

I'm disappointed too and am returning my A7R IV for exchange. The camera does not focus properly. Misses over 80% of shots. Regardless of ISO, shutter speed, aperture, lens, eye tracking, spot focus, tripod, etc., the camera misses almost every shot. Although the autofocus is much slower, my Sony A7R works better. UPDATE: Changed to 3 stars: I received a replacement A7R IV and the focus problems are gone. There is a real problem with this model that is not focused on a few units. Check dpreview

Another Sony milestone

The Sony A7R IV's resolution, autofocus, speed and form factor should see it take first place in the Camera of the Year category. A little disappointed to see that so little work has been done on the camera's menu structure. The camera offers 14-bit uncompressed raw or compressed raw that uses Sony's potentially destructive compression. A lossless or visually lossless compression option does not yet exist. There is no 4K/60p on the a7R IV, but the camera remains a pure 8-bit camcorder. Most…

  • Best in its niche

Unexpected surprise

The ergonomics of this camera is very comfortable to use compared to previous 7r models. The enlarged back button, larger grip, and camera-in-hand feel are all welcome. Fast focusing, focus tracking and focus point color also deserve praise. However, the need for Gmaster lenses to really see the difference in image quality wasn't clear to me before I bought the A7riv. Spending $3,500 for the same image quality as a 7riii with the same $1,000 less lenses doesn't make much sense unless you're…

Great for those who need it! And you?

A7R4 isn't for everyone, but if your niche is high resolution and mirrorless performance then it's fantastic. Eyes. I can shoot tiny jumping spiders, killer bugs, flowers, lichens, mosses and all sorts of incredibly small objects. APSC mode (or Crop in Lightroom) makes this camera both the highest resolution full frame camera and a phenomenal crop sensor camera. Win! In combination with the Sony 24-70 F2.8 GM I can take all my everyday photos without macro photography. Things like street…

A headline rush and a missed opportunity for a true 4th Gen A7R.

I have had all 4 generations of the A7R. I liked the A7R II for its amazing sensor, massive auto focus improvement and memory playback app. But I was disappointed with the battery life. The A7R III has improved battery life by taking a big leap forward in endurance. The new battery is still the best among mirrorless cameras. The third generation also improved ergonomics, button layout, etc. using the same sensor as the previous generation. The A7R III is an amazing camera and it's really…

Pros
  • Sturdy construction
Cons
  • Not all will fit

The megapixels are worth it!

I have had all A7r cameras including the original, A7rii, A7riii and now A7riv. A7riv is the first major image quality improvement in years! Should I upgrade to 60MP? Definitely, but remember this is still a specialty camera and not an action camera. The camera industry has stagnated in the 24-megapixel space for many years. Canon's R5 and R6 cameras have been pushed to their limits over the past year and the race for new megapixels is back in full swing. Usually, the megapixel wars have been…
