False advertising or lack of due diligence.

"Those are just rocks!" my nephew exclaimed as I slapped him over and over again. Eventually he collapsed. And he was inside. same material as outside. It was a complete disappointment. It took me 20 hits on a rock before it cracked. And when it happened, there was nothing in it. Exactly the same red dust as outside. One was solid and looked like those rocks you find at recess, you know, shiny. And other? Well, we gave up after number 5. My nephew just got into this weird fandom of rocks, gems…

Extremely disappointed in this product and appalled at National Geographic.

Extremely disappointed with this product and appalled that the National Geographic name has been put on it. The picture on the packaging is nothing but false advertising. My granddaughter's initial excitement and joy at this gift soon evaporated after this grandfather helped her crack these stones. Of the four surviving so-called "geodes", only one developed very small crystals, and this one was only the size of a ping-pong ball. Of course, real geodes almost always have at least some voids…

Pros
  • Stylish and modern design

Not perfect but I will buy again

Let me start with what I like about this product: I have tried various other brands of geode breakers and many of them were very difficult to break. Usually those that are harder to hack are mostly rocks and less cavernous crystalline space. Only one stone from this batch was difficult to break, and that was because it was a completely massive crystal. I'm not too upset about that because that's the nature of geodes - sometimes you get a rock. A 9/10 geode is fine for me. The problem is that…

Natural geodes so expect some variation

These geodes are natural, not an artificial product (and not cement as another reviewer claimed) so expect some variation. Because they are real, no one can look inside beforehand and ensure that all ten geodes will look spectacular when opened. I didn't have any with pretty colored crystals inside, but most were hollow with interesting crystals. Only one wasn't quite hollow but had a whorl of light blue agate inside, so we were happy. My thirteen year old son and I used a regular old clawed…

Pros
  • Enjoyable
Cons
  • Obsolete model
