Mostly unremarkable; neither bad nor surprising

Altec Lansing is a name with a long history in audio (more than 100 years) and a reputation for making quality products. I took these headphones with high hopes for something special. Unfortunately, while they're not bad, they're definitely nothing special, and in fact I found most aspects unremarkable. Tone - 8/10. A good balance is usually V-shaped with an emphasis on bass and treble. Thanks to them, modern music sounds good and is not tied to a genre. They don't excite me, but they sound good. Comfort - 9/10. The fit is just great and they sit firmly on the temples. Build quality is 6/10 overall: headphones (8/10) and case (4/10). Headphones are good. The plastic is pleasant to the touch, the tips are pleasant. The ear hooks are quite flexible, so they offer support without weighing you down. The case is chunky and the glossy plastic is ugly. The button you press to open is pretty flimsy too. For the price you can expect a better case. It's hard to pocket with earbuds on, but it's oddly shaped, ugly and just plain no good. Properties - 6/10. The standard material is here. There is a physical button on each earbud, which is good for functions. There's no ANC, but they advertise soundproofing. The IPX rating is good enough for workouts, but should be higher for exercise-oriented headphones. I would worry if they get caught in the rain. Battery life is pretty good, but I've seen similar form factors with better battery life (like J-Lab). In general they are fine. I don't like them and I don't hate them (although I hate the body). I'll most likely end up giving them to a friend who needs a pair because there's not much about them that makes me want to keep them to myself. I don't really recommend them unless you absolutely need glow stick style ear hooks for visibility.

Pros
  • Like everything before
Cons
  • poorly thought out
