Too expensive for something that doesn't work

The user manual says it's practically plug and play, with the stylus and weight factory installed. The manual doesn't even say how to adjust the arm weight. The one I got sounded muddy on some records, and cracked a bit on some records. When he discussed this with the Andover helpdesk, Andover said to adjust the weight. The only way to get rid of the muddy sound is to fully adjust the weight, but back then the sound wasn't that full. Was it a bad pen? The design of the strap going around the perimeter of the table was awkward, and it was easy to bang on and loosen the strap.
