When we have guests, I rotate the chair to the center of the room. I found it damaged the wall behind the chair. After spackling and painting to fix the damage I had to find a solution and it was the best of worlds. They use small panels of Lucite in the hospitality industry to protect the wall where the deadbolt lock behind the door opens. Since a regular chair rail wouldn't fit here, I used this plate with some of those elastic points that credit cards get caught on. And voila, it almost disappears on the painted wall behind the chair and is strong enough to take a beating. Perfect for our needs.
